It can be difficult to put into words how much we all love our cats. They’re part of our families. Kitty Jungle Cardboard Cat House was designed out of that love for all cats. The materials we use, how we designed the shape, the manufacturing partner we chose all optimized for the well-being, enjoyment and health of all cats.

Kitty Jungle Materials

Soy Ink
Cats can be rough on cat houses. So, the materials we choose needed to be healthy and strong.

Our most important choice was not to use any industrial or toxic inks to print the jungle graphics. The design you see on Kitty Jungle and all of our cardboard cat houses, also known as cat scratcher houses, are printed with cat safe-soy ink. Soy ink is a healthier choice for your cat and is renewable, so it’s better for the planet.

Non-Toxic Glues
Scratching is an important part of a cat’s physical and emotional health. So, a quality, well-constructed cat scratcher is a vital part of any cardboard cat house. The scratcher we’ve designed for Kitty Jungle scratcher house is made with only non-toxic glues. Over time, scratchers really take a beating from many cats. So, it’s important to make sure the scratcher is healthy for your cat.

We also designed the scratcher to fit snugly in the Kitty Jungle Cat House. The scratchers is integrated into the house when you assemble it, so so it stays in place even during heavy use

And we’ve created a replacement scratcher that allows you to keep the cat house and simply replace the scratcher should it wear out. The replacement scratcher is designed so that it can be placed in the cat house after the house is assembled.

Recycled, Cat-Tested Corrugated Cardboard
One of our most important choices was the corrugated cardboard itself. It needed to be strong, healthy for your cat and good for the planet.

Given the cube shape of the Kitty Jungle, we knew we needed corrugated cardboard that could stand up to cats sitting, playing and jumping onto the top of the cat house.

We ultimately settled on a cat-tested, thick corrugated cardboard that we knew would be ready for even the roughest playtime.

It was also important for us to choose cardboard that had been recycled. It is more expensive for us to buy recycled cardboard. But we wanted your cat house to be healthy for your cat and for the planet.

The Design
There are a lot of oddly shaped cat houses out there. Some are shaped like airplanes or spaceships or delivery trucks. And we considered many different shapes when developing our cardboard cat houses. We found the oddly shaped cat houses have limited utility beyond their odd shape. They really didn’t have enough room for cats to move around, turn around, sit up, scratch, groom and other activities that would make the cat house a multiuse space.

We knew the cat house we wanted to offer needed to be a place where your cat could not only scratch and sleep, but also play, hide their toys or just take a break and spend time in a place where they feel safe and comfortable.

We determined the cube shape provides the best opportunity for many different uses. Other cat houses, such as the narrow cottage style cat house with pitched roofs, for example, might be taller at the top of the steepled roof. But because they are long and narrow, they limit the ability for cats to really turn around easily or play or even sit up except in the very center and tallest part of the cat house.

We also wanted the Kitty Jungle Cardboard Cat House to support the health and well being of cats. And play is an important part of that. So, we designed the cat house to be large enough and shaped in such a way that your cat can play with you and other pets while inside. The large arched entryway and the strategically placed play holes on each side are designed to encourage bonding, play and interaction.

Designing the space for multiple uses also helps ensure that your cat will use it again and again. The more ways your cat has to use it, the more they will consider it their own special space.

The Manufacturing
We know there are cheaper cardboard cat houses out there made by international corporations and large chain stores. And that’s okay. We don’t want to be the cheapest cat house you can buy. We don’t want your cat to be an afterthought in a large company’s product catalog. We want to offer the best.

That means we had to find a manufacturing partner that would use only the best materials designed specifically for the well-being of cats. After an exhaustive search and the examination of many sample products, we chose a manufacturing partner who loves cat as much as we do. We chose a manufacturing partner focused exclusively on cats. All of their facilities and processes are inspected and up to U.S. and international standards.

They also love cats.

We like to say Kitty jungle unleashes your cat’s inner-jungle. Kitty Jungle, like our other cat houses, is designed to eschew the ugly brown cardboard and more childish shapes and designs of other cat houses. We chose a graphic design that would both enhance your decor and that your cat would love.
